The atmosphere in the Payson Event Center arena was a little more relaxed at the the Gracie Lee Haught Memorial Roping than it is during formal rodeos — note the short sleeve shirts and caps — but it was no less competitive.

The chute opened, the steer bolted, the horses launched, the ropes twirled and some of the best riders in Rim Country competed to raise money for kids — and maybe collect a cut of some $9,000 in prize money.
