The music of the movies will be presented by the Tonto Community Concert Association at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13 in the auditorium at PHS.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is designed to help communities prepare for effective disaster response through training and planning. The local CERT, sponsored by the Payson Fire Department, is providing CERT training in Pine starting at 9 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, Saturday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, March 6. The training will be presented at the LDS Church at corner of Pine Creek Road and Highway 87 in Pine. The training that CERT members receive further enhances community preparedness and through awareness it potentially mitigates damage caused as a result of disasters. The Longhorn spirit line opened the 2009-2010 school year full of smiles and ended their season the same, with the win of a silver medal for All-Girl Cheer at the state competition for cheer and pom squads.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio spoke to an overflow crowd of about 260 people Thursday afternoon. He told the crowd his critics were unhappy because he was enforcing the laws.
Summer Kelley braved the cold Feb. 10 to sharpen her skills. Both the varsity baseball and softball teams start their season at home with a scrimmage against Winslow Thursday, Feb. 25. Regular play begins for the jayvee and varsity teams March 1 as they host Holbrook. The girls are up the next day, March 2, hosting Chino Valley, and then March 4 through March 6 the varsity softball team travels south to compete in the Buckeye Tournament.

March 4 through March 5 the baseball team is also on the road, participating in the Mohave Valley Tournament in Laughlin, Nev. The freshman softball team will have its first game at home on March 2 with Florence. The track team opens on the road, first competing in the NPA Sky Dome Classic in Flagstaff March 3. The golf team will be in Snowflake on March 5.

The long pole in his yard holds the weather station and all equipment needed to take weather readings, for wind speed and direction, accumulations of rain or snow and temperature. At the very top of the pole is the anemometer, a device for measuring wind speed and direction.
