Budget hole: Payson officials say they’ve made progress toward a deal with Arizona State Parks that would keep the world’s largest travertine arch open, despite closure of most of the rest of the parks in the system. Visitors to the park pump an estimated $3.6 million into the local economy.
About 120 people filled the room for the jazz concert Sunday. The featured artist was singer Vismaya Hagelberg. The band included Steven VonWald (sax), Rachel Eckroth (piano), Chris Long (bass) and Gerry Reynolds (drums). These concerts are drawing more and more top musicians, many with international experience. Next month there will be two concerts: March 7 and March 14. The first one will feature another fine vocalist, Nicole Pasternak, with a trio. The second will headline Ken Taylor (trumpet) who is becoming a Payson favorite.
Former Congressmen J.D. Hayworth was in Payson Wednesday morning as he starts his campaign against Sen. John McCain.
