Cayci Vuksanovich, a life-long gardener of Globe and Master Gardener, will talk about growing vegetables in a sustainable garden at the upcoming Arizona Highlands Garden Conference next month in Payson.

The Gila County Road Crew ran a blade near the second crossing where heavy rain in the area scorched by last summer’s Water Wheel Fire caused mud and debris to slide onto Houston Mesa Road.
Some residents of Rim Country are very serious about keeping their “back yard” clean, going out of their way to pick up litter.

Payson middle and grade school children were given a fun and informative session on fire safety Monday morning at the Rim Country Middle School. Betty B. Bonkers and Buckley B. Bonkers from the Pine Strawberry Fire Department were on hand to help the students learn about protecting themselves in a home fire. The brother and sister team of Stacy and Kevin Figueroa have been doing these public education for events for more than 15 years.
Shoot for the Rim 3-D Family Archery Tournament takes place Saturday, July 17 at the Tonto Rim Sports Club Jim Jones Shooting Range. Participants of all ages can compete in a two-course, 3-D archery tournament hosted by the Tonto Rim Sports Club in partnership with the Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department. There is fun for all ages, many different divisions for children through adults and two different 3-D target courses. Police dogs, handlers and trainers from all over the U.S. and Canada came to Payson this week for the annual K-9 Officer Survival Seminar. During testing for final certification Tuesday, July 13, Roman shows he has what it takes. He gets a bite on this “attacker” and retains his grip until given the command to release.
Taco Bell recently underwent a complete remodel of their facility in Payson. The remodel took several months and the store now has a new look.
After spending Sunday at Fossil Creek, the Smith family returned home to find the dark clouds that have been building up every afternoon in Pine and Strawberry were finally sharing their heat-relieving, refreshing rain with the two communities.

She and her dad, Mark, found the itchy spot on one of the creamery’s llamas. Mark, a Payson High School grad, who now lives in the Valley, was visiting with his parents in the Rim Country.
