Marvin Reis waits patiently while George Mayer (right) finishes checking the tax form on the computer screen during an AARP (American Association of Retired People), tax help project conducted at the Payson Elks Lodge, Wednesday, March 10. Volunteers with AARP are offering free tax preparation for seniors and low-income residents of the Rim Country on a first-come first-served basis at the Elks Lodge, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no cost for this service, however, please bring a picture ID, Social Security cards for all persons claimed on the return, last year’s tax return, your 2009 Tax Documents, and proof of real estate taxes actually paid in 2009 (for the property tax credit).

OK, they are only weeds, but I love dandelions. A week or so ago, before our latest snow storm, my day was brightened by the sight of patches of dandelions blooming on the embankment along 260 just east of the 87 intersection. You just have to admire their tenacity to pop out of the cold ground and thrust up their golden heads. Our spring bloom seems later than usual this year, but will probably make its appearance this week with warmer weather forecast. Rim Country is beautiful year-round and especially so in the spring. Aren’t we blessed to live here?
