A massive plume of smoke over Rim Country Tuesday afternoon alarmed several residents. The Forest Service says the “Chamberlin” fire is under control and was purposely set to burn through debris. Crews started the burn in the Pleasant Valley Ranger District of the Tonto National Forest, setting the fire during the cool, relatively moist conditions to burn through accumulated brush and small trees. Crews used roads as fire breaks to contain the spread of the fire. Forest Service officials say the fire will probably continue to produce a plume of smoke throughout the week.
