The layers of the Chinle Formation have also yielded fossils of armored aetosaurs which look like dinosaurs, but aren't. These creatures dominated the world 225 million years ago, but died out in a mass extinction at the end of the Triassic, clearing the way for the rise of the dinosaurs.
