All Bikes all gone; fire burns through Rye salvage lot

Crews spent most of Saturday night battling a massive fire at a bike/automotive salvage yard in Rye that destroyed at least several homes and threatened the surrounding forest.

All Bikes was a disaster waiting to happen...and it did! It was nothing but a terrible eyesore and, obviously, a huge fire hazard with all the junk crammed in there. We live across Hwy 87. Fortunately, the fire did not cross the highway but we did lose power and evacuated to a friends house. We ended up throwing out all of the food in the fridge/freezer since the power was out for 5+ hours and didn't feel it was safe to eat. I feel the owner and the operator of that property are ultimately responsible for this fire. You know that place was a terrible fire hazard yet you allowed the continued operation of nothing but a junkyard. I feel so terrible for those that lost their homes. Thankfully, I don't think anyone was seriously hurt!! Hoping this is the end of All Bikes and the piece of property will be cleaned up and used for something worthwhile.

Yes,I agree,I dealt with Ron on more then one occasion,he was less the helpful and the place was a nightmare.Stuff stored everywhere, cars on top of cars, Why did the county allow this, and who is going to pay for this? Karen is 100% right! This place was an accident waiting to happen with all the garbage around. Ron says he wants to rebuilt,I think he should pay for all the damage he did to everyone in the area.
