What’s the single most important quality for a judge to have? Good Judgment and the Demeanor/Ability to control the Courtroom tie for the most important quality of a judge. A judge must have good judgment. The primary job of a judge is to make decisions. He must be able to make factual findings, know the law, and then apply the law to the facts to come to reasoned decisions. Judges must also have the demeanor to, in a professional manner, control what is happening in the Courtroom. This begins with respect for the various parties before the Court and a demand that the parties respect the Court.
