High School Rodeo June 17, 2009
High School Rodeo Finals. The last, good, get together before one goes on to real life and the unforgiving reality of winning and losing. Some cowboys and cowgirls will continue in this dusty, exciting, traveling life; others will say it was a great time and choose to go another way. But all will acknowledge the experience was something they enjoyed and cherished with fond memories tucked under a wide brimmed hat with a western tradition unique to America. All photographs by Andy Towle/Roundup.
Early morning coffee can be had anywhere if the time is right and friends like Mary Kenyon and Becky Teller are there.
Lookin' lean and mean this bull had no desire for this photographer to get any closer than necessary. MMoooo...
Cell phones can be a pesky necessity, Mike Hughes knows, as he sits astride a fence talking business early in the morning at the event center before the Friday start of high school rodeo action.
Just waitin' for the tractor to smooth out the ground Kelsy Goswick leans against one of the barrels before the start of barrel racing.
Jessica Stone lost her hat early as she bolted out of the gate. Unfortunately, she also knocked over a barrel and had five seconds added to her time. Darn.
Kelsy Goswick was the first contestant during the High School Rodeo finals in Friday's barrel racing event, June 12.
Huck Sandsness was the first one out of the saddle bronc gate, Friday, June 12, at the High School Rodeo finals.
Mitchell Perna gets a rough ride and didn't last the full eights seconds during his saddle bronc event.
Tanner Ramirez got a re-ride in the bareback riding event but was unable to hold on for the full eight seconds. Hate it when that happens.
Trevor Haught didn't fare quite so well in the saddle bronc event. He was thrown off a few seconds after this image was recorded.
