Using a shovel and their hands, motorists who stopped to help in this rollover accident on Highway 87, north of Payson, Sunday morning, were able to free the driver, who was trapped in the vehicle. Reportedly, his only injury was a cut on his head. The accident briefly closed the southbound lanes of the Beeline.
The Home Depot float with its interesting motif of a working North Pole Express train chugging around the track during the Electric Light Parade took first place in the commercial division.
Toys donated for tamales on Dec. 3 will be used in the annual Public Safety Christmas for Kids Program. Registration for the program will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6 and Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Payson Town Hall, 303 N. Beeline Highway. Look for the banner hanging out in front of where signup will take place.
Eight Payson High School students attended the 2011 DECA Western Region Leadership Conference in San Diego last month. Representing PHS were: bottom row, left to right, Kyle Marshall, Amanda Hartnell, Hayli Egbert, Bethany Sprinkle; middle row, Jordyn Fruth, Madi Flake, Nick McMullen; top, Eric Vohs. The conference is designed to develop leadership skills in students pursuing careers in marketing and management.
Adam Neal braves the chilly weather and cold water as he fishes in the large lake at Green Valley Park, using his Fish Cat 4 float tube. Neal caught four small bass but threw them back.
An overload of sugary, colorful displays elicits screams and “look over here” from spectators at the World’s Largest Gingerbread Village. One boy points to a football game with gingerbread players and gumdrop spectators – one of 100 or so displays at the Prescott Resort.
Slick road conditions last week led to a number of accidents. A semi-truck slid off of SR 277 between Tonto Drive and Green Dump turnoff.
The 2011 Payson wrestling team is extremely inexperienced, with only two seniors, Zac Wilson and Jacob Spear, and was forced to give up double digit forfeit points in each match at a recent Grand Canyon University event because the team did not have wrestlers to enter in the 106, 145, 170 and heavyweight classifications.
