Friday's Gallery November 22, 2011
Admittedly not all of these are from last week's events. But some are outstanding examples of people at their best, having fun or showing how dedicated some people are to what is important to them.
Using a traditional Indonesian tool called a T’janting (which looks like a miniature teapot on a stick), Marilyn Salomon carefully drips wax onto the areas of the fabric she wants to protect from the dye. “It’s easy to mess up this part,” she said.
A proud veteran salutes during the national anthem at Friday’s Veterans Day remembrance at the Payson High School Auditorium.
Waiting patiently for the Veterans Day program to proceed, Abby Clark (dressed as Uncle Sam) has a front row seat in the Payson High School Auditorium, Friday, Nov. 11.
Linda Nannizzi checks out some of the copper items at last year’s Gem and Mineral Show, conducted at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino.
Karen Katsaros of Celtic Threads displays a group of sock monkeys dressed in festive wear just in time for the holiday season. The High Country Bazaar had a Christmas atmosphere Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Community Presbyterian Church.
Jacob Spear (right) and Matt Schreur mix it up during an intensive wrestling practice in Wilson Dome. The wrestling schedule has only one appearance at home, the Payson Invitational, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21.
The residents and businesses of the Rim Country deserve a big thank you for their generosity as the area approaches what promises to be one of the tougher holiday seasons in recent memory. Two businesses recently stepped forward with their annual campaigns to help area food banks and other service organizations. Paper and Metal Scrappers has held a food drive for the past month — it concludes Nov. 16. Owners Barbara and Brenda invited their regular customers to bring in cans of food to donate to both St. Vincent de Paul and the Community Presbyterian Church food bank. As of Thursday, Nov. 10, more than 233 pounds had been donated, plus cash contributions. This is the seventh year of the food drive. Payson Concrete has held a special campaign to raise funds for area charities for about the past 15 years, according to Tim Hughes. Each year the company gives a $5 discount on any load of materials for residential projects with the donation of a can of food for the food banks. For any job where concrete is poured at a residence, the company puts $2.50 in a kitty and divides it among several area charities. This year, Payson Concrete was able to give $1,000 each to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, the Humane Society of Central Arizona, Time Out Inc. and Special Olympics. Hughes said there were quite a few contractors who participated with food and cash contributions even though they did not have any work.
Learning to balance in a cooperative manner working as a group to solve problems, as these administration staff discovered, may be more challenging than first anticipated.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
