This week's events centered around Thanksgiving and the holiday activities in the schools, at the library and the changing of sports action to basketball.
Students at the Pine School gave veterans a belated program of appreciation Friday, Nov. 18. The assembly included poems, two short plays and a patriotic song.
A Turkey Shoot was held at the Jim Jones Shooting Range on Saturday morning using pistol and rifle targets that ranged from 20 to 100 yards. Mary McEvoy (foreground with a Ruger revolver) competed in both categories.

Derek Shreiner, left, Cindy Gregory, and Sharon King, as part of the B4B Chamber committee volunteers, replace the bench slats on one of the 4 benches that were sorely in need of repair. A total of six benches occupy strategic placement along Main Street. The B4B committee has been working to paint, replace and beautify the benches. Mattress Experts and The Home Depot generously contributed materials to make this happen.
Woody the squirrel was out at the crossroads of Highways 87 amd 260 promoting Turkey Tuesday, Tuesday, Nov. 22. Basha's and Safeway food stores had an abundance of turkey's and encouraged people to purchase and donate them to the Saint Vincent de Paul Food Bank.
Dan Kealey, a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul, loads another stack of frozen turkeys into the back of a van during the annual Turkey Tuesday Thanksgiving food drive held Nov. 22. A total of 223 turkeys were purchased at Bashas’ by people in the community and then given out in food boxes by the food bank. The Knights of Columbus donated 70 turkeys and Safeway customers also contributed. A total of $4,555.70 in cash donations were collected as well.
The Julia Randall Elementary School kept the turkey trotting for the 3rd, 4th nd 5th grade classes early this morning, Wednesday, Nov. 23. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
With paper tufted feather hats the students circled the upper loop at Green Valley Park, putting in miles of cuteness.
Mary Brown (left) and Rebecca Warren, volunteers with the Rim Country Literacy Program, comb the stacks during the 12th Annual Used Book Sale held Nov. 12 and 13. The RCLP’s new office at 1001 S. Beeline Highway provided much-needed space for the event, as well as for the program’s adult education classes and other services offered to the residents of Rim Country.

Katie Sanchez’s dedication manifests itself during Tykes and Toddlers Story Time every Thursday. Parents and children participate in reading, singing, and the total tactile experience of books. Here she coaxes Hyah and her mom, Juanita Kirgis, to feel the book and watch the lion’s mouth open and close.
