The 126th Oldest Continuous Rodeo. YEEHA!!!
Many of the fans for the Saturday afternoon performance drove up from the valley to enjoy the milder weather and be entertained by an old and storied profession.
Waiting for the events to begin Dylan Kendall, left, and Brandon Morris surveyed the the scene from the top of the pens. The boys were part of the roping chute crew and helped transfer livestock from the waiting pen to the breakaway chutes for tie down roping and steer wrestling, Saturday, Aug. 21.
These queens of the rodeo rode the arena with flags waving to the crowd to signal the start of this 126th performance of the Payson Rodeo.
'You talkin' to me?' Jeremy Logan seemed to be questioning this photographer as he was caught unaware while watching the crowd before the start of the Saturday afternoon performance.
Wow! Now that was a classic bareback brunc ride by Tyler Staker of Taylor, AZ. Staker managed to stay on for the full eight seconds, and then some.

Jesse Wallace III showed his technique for hanging on longer than anyone else to win the prized mutton bustin' trophy, Saturday, Aug. 21 during the 126th performance of the oldest continuous rodeo in the state of Arizona.
All those mutton busters got a certificate and a rodeo belt buckle for their attempts to ride a sheep longer than anyone else. Good luck with that.

Chanucey Kirby, Ft. McDowell, hung on for his eight second ride on Smokey and had a heck of a time getting off. No doubt he had a sore back the next day and the day after and the day after.
All lined up and ready to ride these rodeo queens from around the state add a measure of ceremony and beauty to any arena.
Marina Dale had just taken in some mighty cold shaved ice from her refreshment and was exclaiming 'Oh, that's cold.' Brain freeze.
Curious as cats these two young steers peek their heads through the banners lining the event center to see what all the commotion is about.
Kyle Dutton had his eyes on the prize as he dismounted and prepared to grab the rope and tie this critter as fast as he could.
