Happy Fourth of July July 10, 2008
Oh the Fourth of July, a memory maker for today's children, a stirring rememberance of events past for veterans, a time of speeches for some of the biggest windbags in our legislative body and a celebration of a great life that has continued to evolve from our symbolic birth as a nation through our struggling times, past and present. Parties on the lawn, fishing at the lake, barbecue in the back yard and sparklers for the young to celebrate another birthday of freedom. Recently, on a bumper sticker, this person read "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism." Yes! Why? Because those who question our "leaders" with such gusto are people who love their country, their way of life, and embrace their freedoms more heartily than those who live their lives wanting only another day of vacation. Perhaps a stronger emphasis is needed to educate our younger generation about the history of our founders. There is a need to know how this country came to be for it to continue to preserve the rights of individuals above all else.
