A time to remember, celebrate “The lights were turned off and the candles lit and the names of the people who have died from cancer is read. There is this beautiful glow all around the field,” he said. The survivors’ walk is always touching too, he added. A total of 15 different teams contributed in excess of $1,000. The top contributions were $7,944 from the Mazatzal Casino, $5,377 from Big Brothers Big Sisters and $4,831 from RoBin’s Race Team. Groups contributing more than $3,000 were Payson Dental Care, $3,720, Payson HealthCare Management, $3,583, and Payson Optimist Club, $3,331.
Setting out the candles that surrounded the track at Payson High School, were Joy Brackin and Raymond ‘Salty’ Holt Friday night just before the Relay for Life event started. Many of the candles are dedicated to someone who has or had cancer.
There were plenty of hugs in the survivor’s tent Friday night, while others sign in their teams and pick up t-shirts.

Always one of the first happenings at a Relay for Life event is the walk the cancer survivors take around the the field. Cancer survivors led off the Payson event Friday night just after 6. Once the survivors have finished their walk supporters follow and at least one member from each of the teams walk throughout the night until the event ends at 6 a.m. on Saturday.
