Rodeo Parade 2009 August 19, 2009
APS and Rim Country Chamber of Commerce sponsored the 125th Annual World’s Oldest Continuous Rodeo Parade on Saturday, August 15. The Parade was Co-Chaired by Brian Tollefson and John Wakelin. There were 64 entries with 84 actual units parading. The Grand Marshall was Nancy Sheppard, World Champion trick rider and roper, member of the Pro-Rodeo Hall of Fame, the Cowgirl Hall of Fame and the Cowboy Hall of fame. The two Ambassadors were Tim Kempton and Dan Majerle of the Phoenix Suns. Announcing was Eddie Armer, Fred Carpenter, DJ Craig, with assistance from the Phoenix Sun’s Announcer Al McCoy. Guests of the Parade were Dora Lee Connally, Payson’s First Rodeo Queen; Leroy & Velma Tucker, Charlie Henderson and Duke Wilbanks, all Rim Country Old Timers.
Reese Gibson is barely seen as her blow-up doll is almost as big as she is, while she waits for the parade to unfold and display its wonders.
Dave Smith, of El Zaribah, escorts the horse William R. Dignan would have ridden in this year's Rodeo Parade. Dignan was a past Captain and Board Director of the Tempe El Zaribah Shrine.
The Payson High School band marched and played to the delight of the crowds that dotted the parade route from Green Valley Park to the Sawmill Crossing. Oh, that's a walk. It's only a mile, ha, ha...

Pretty women, to paraphrase Roy Orbison, riding down the street, the kind I'd like to meet.. are always in a parade, especially rodeo parades. This year's annual was no exception.
Getting ready to have their picture taken these young ladies display different thoughts and emotions of their present state of mind. Ashley Angelmire, Annie Moore and Gwen Davis, all express a different mind set.
