Payson’s first community garden was blooming with excitement Saturday as volunteers and officials gathered to officially open the 1.5-acre garden off East Tyler Parkway. Gila County Supervisor Tommie Martin cut a red ribbon after Payson Mayor Kenny Evans offered a dedication. The garden came together in only a few short months after the First Church of the Nazarene offered several acres of land and dozens of businesses stepped forward with donations, helping turn garden organizer Roger Kreimeyer’s dream into a reality. Planting is expected to start soon and the garden will stay open through the summer. Residents can still reserve their own plot. Call the church for more information.
