And at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23 the gun will sound for more than 100 runners in this year’s version of Payson’s annual 5K (3.1 miles) Turkey Trot. Serious runners and weekend joggers, zealous youngsters and slow-but-steady octogenarians will race from Green Valley Park, west on Main Street to the course’s turnaround point at the sanitary plant, then huff and puff their way back to the finish line at the park.

‘Les Miserables’ coming to Payson next week

The Payson High School Theatre Company will present “Les Miserables,” a play (not the musical) adapted for schools by Tim Kelly and from the 1862 French novel by Victor Hugo at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24; 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25; and 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26 in the high school auditorium. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for both senior citizens and students. The play is a Tom Walling production.
