Walker anniversary

Claudia and Jim Walker

Jim and Claudia Walker of Payson celebrate their 60th anniversary Wednesday, April 1.

Jim and Claudia were both raised in Phoenix. They met at the Palms Theater when they were in the eighth grade. While attending West High School, they began dating and both entered Phoenix College.

They married April 1, 1960 at Phoenix Christian Church.

While Claudia went to work at the telephone company, Jim continued at Phoenix College and then went on to Arizona State University. He joined the Phoenix Fire Department in 1966 and spent 20 years there, moving up the ranks to division chief.

Retirement took them to Coronado, Calif., where Jim served as fire chief for 10 years. They returned to Arizona in 1997, making their home in Pine and then moving to Payson in 2007.

The couple has three children, Jim, Larry (Ivone) and Jane McDonald; and four grandchildren, Sid and Sage Pearce and Kyle and Hazel Walker.
