For the past year, Pine resident and Arizona House candidate retired Army Colonel Felicia French has been traveling throughout northern Arizona knocking on doors.
Throughout this long journey, her daughter, Anna, has been by her side as road buddy, campaign communications director and constant supporter.
Anna did take a three-month break from the campaign this summer for a backpacking trip to Central America. The trip was part of her professional work as a digital storyteller who writes and creates videos for Spin the Globe Project, her online business that promotes ethical adventure tourism.
Currently, she is pressing pause on a documentary project about ecotourism and voluntourism based on her recent trip to Costa Rica, Belize and Guatemala.
For right now, Anna’s primary focus is getting her mom elected. This challenge is just one of many the mother-daughter team has tackled. A year ago, they converted a van into an off-the-grid, solar-powered adventure mobile and home so that Anna (with her dog, Cagney) could travel cross-country and share her experiences through YouTube and Instagram.
As a mother and daughter who hiked to Machu Picchu together in 2014, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2015, and hiked parts of the Appalachian Trail in 2016, this adventurous duo has a history of surmounting enormous challenges.
Recalling their Mount Kilimanjaro climb, Anna said, “I see this political campaign as our current Kilimanjaro, and I know that together we can accomplish almost anything.”
