Before snow began falling Rod Barnes, volunteer coordinator for Pine-Strawberry Fire District and P-S CERT leader, made sure his family would be safe and self-sufficient in his absence, and then spent the next three days at the Pine Incident Command Post assisting PSFD Chief Gary Morris and PSFD Fire Marshal Mike Reichling with plans and operations, supporting the American Red Cross and first responders from Pine-Strawberry Fire District and the Gila County Sheriff’s Office.

Barnes and Reichling helped set up the Red Cross shelter and made 30 runs to do welfare checks, deliver oxygen cylinders and start generators supporting the first responders.

Sgt. Dennis Newman of the GCSO and Bill Pitterle and Gary Hall from Tonto Rim Search and Rescue assisted the two men — the TRSAR duo volunteered their support with snow cats.

P-S CERT Leadership Team member Ric Stephenson took care of his elderly neighbors when his neighborhood in Strawberry was completely cut off during the storm and subsequent power outage.

Al Robles of P-S CERT and Mary Robles with TRSAR were able to accomplish important road reconnaissance on Thursday that later proved very helpful to PSFD efforts.
