An Indian Wells man is recovering after being stabbed in Tonto Basin Sunday by his brother, the sheriff’s office says.

Jeremy Begay, 29, of Ganado, reportedly stabbed his brother, Jody Begay, 32, of Indian Wells, at the Punkin Center Lodge, 249 Old Highway 188, and then fled the scene, according to a release from Sheriff Adam Shepherd. Shepherd said the men were reportedly having a dispute.

The stabbing was reported to dispatchers around 11:12 p.m. Jeremy reportedly stabbed Jody once.

Sheriff’s deputies along with the Payson Police Department and Arizona Department of Public Safety responded along with Tonto Basin Fire. Paramedics stabilized Jody and they flew him to a Valley trauma center.

Just before 1 a.m., Jeremy was taken into custody with the help of DPS Ranger helicopter.

Gila County K-9 located the weapon in a wash approximately 800 yards from the scene.
