The Friends of Payson Parks & Recreation recently donated a scoreboard for the Rumsey 1 softball field.

The new scoreboard replaced one that couldn’t be repaired because parts were no longer available. It was installed in time for the 38-team USA B State Championship softball tournament held July 12-14.

Now all five Rumsey Park softball/baseball fields have working scoreboards for use in both tournament and league games.

The donation helped the Parks and Recreation Department complete a project that otherwise might not have been funded depending on the town’s budget.

“We’ve been operating without on this field for awhile and it was great to have the support of the Friends because it also eliminated a capital project from the budget that we had a request for,” said Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Courtney Spawn. “So that was a huge help.”

And that’s just what the Friends group is for.

“The purpose of the Friends is to provide things the budget can’t provide,” said John Wilson.
