It’s the time of year when Gila County’s first responders come together to brighten the holidays for local youth.
During the month of November, Rim residents will start to see Gila County employees growing out their facial hair. Rest assured, it’s all for a good cause! During No Shave November, Gila County personnel are given the opportunity to donate money in exchange for not having to shave for the month. This money will go to help fund the county’s second annual Shop With A Cop event
During Shop With A Cop 2018, Gila County first responders will work with local youth throughout Gila County. The morning will start out with a hearty breakfast for the kids, from there they will have the opportunity to meet Santa and ride in an emergency vehicle on parade to the local Walmart. Once at the Walmart, the youth will be paired with a first responder who will escort them on an all-expense paid shopping trip. They will be able to purchase gifts for their families and themselves.
The Globe event will take place on December 8 while the Payson event will take place December 15.
The Gila County Sheriff’s Office thanks all those who have made these events possible. Several volunteers have stepped forward and made donations of money and time. Without them, these events would not take place.
If you are interested in donating to the cause, please contact The Gila County Sheriff’s Office in Payson or Globe.
If you know a youth who may benefit from this program, please pick up an application at their school or at the Gila County Sheriff’s Office. Applications are due by November 23.
