It was a busier year for the Payson Police Department on the Fourth of July with seven arrests.
Normally, the department makes just one or two arrests on what has become the busiest event of the year in Payson, said Police Chief Don Engler.
Officers arrested one man on an outstanding warrant. They initially talked to him because he was reportedly discharging fireworks at Green Valley Park, which is illegal, Engler said. They ran his identification and found he had a warrant and arrested him.
Also at the park, three juveniles were arrested for drinking alcohol and a driver, in a separate incident, was arrested for DUI, he said.
Officers also cited a bicyclist for failing to obey their commands.
Just after the show ended and vehicles were streaming out of the park, a man on a bicycle reportedly rode through an intersection near the park even though officers told him to wait, causing an “incident,” Engler said.
No one was injured.
Another driver was cited for DUI, but this time on the Beeline Highway, he said.
