It was a busy weekend for firefighters in Rim Country with multiple accidents and fires.
On Thursday, a home in the 600 block of South Oak Street was badly damaged when an electrical smoker reportedly fell over and started a fire, said Fire Chief David Staub. The fire spread from the home’s back porch inside, causing significant damage. The homeowner is staying with neighbors, he said. No one was injured.
On Saturday, around 1:40 p.m., there was an accident involving a semi truck, two motorcycles and a vehicle that had rolled just south of Payson on State Route 87 at milepost 247. The Payson Fire Department called for three helicopters to transport patients who had numerous injuries, said Staub.
Further details on that wreck were unknown as of press time.
Around the same time crews were on the multi-vehicle accident call, a fire was reported off Doll Baby Ranch Road. A fire reportedly started in a shed on a property approximately seven miles southwest of Payson near the junction of Forest Service roads 193 and 414. The Table Mountain Fire spread to 11 acres. On Sunday, the Forest Service reported the fire was 100 percent contained.
Also on Saturday, there were reports of a vehicle fire near the Jim Jones Shooting Range, Staub said.
And Saturday evening, multiple people were reportedly injured in a side-by-side accident in the Christopher Creek area.
