for CASA story

A CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer is needed for 7-year-old Laura.

The Department of Child Safety removed the little girl from her mother’s care due to a long history of substance abuse and neglect, where Laura was often left home alone. Laura’s father is in prison and her family members have not been located.

Among the CASA volunteer’s responsibilities: Monitoring Laura’s progress in her foster home, connecting with her therapist, doctor, and teachers and working with DCS to determine if the mother would participate in services so that she could be reunited with her daughter, and providing recommendations to the judge on what is the best long-term placement for Laura.

If you are interested in becoming a CASA volunteer for a child like Laura, please contact CASA of Gila County by emailing, or visiting the website or on Facebook at, or call 928-474-7145.

PLEASE NOTE: This child’s name has been changed to protect the identities of those involved, and this child is not eligible for adoption at this time.
