Donald Eldon Toot 1922-2019

Donald Eldon Toot, 96 of Payson, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2019.

Donald was born October 4, 1922 in Mesa, Az. Don was the youngest of 6 children born to John Thomas Toot & Hannah Anna (Ausmus) Toot. Don went to school in Mesa and graduated from Mesa High School. Don joined the Navy soon after World War II began at Pearl Harbor - June 6, 1942 until 1946. He then joined the Air Force and served from 1947-1950. His service to our country continued as he spent 22 years working at the Long Beach Shipyard as a machinist, and then advanced to Machinist General Foreman. He had a love of flight from the time he was a young man and he spent many hours sharing that by teaching others how to fly planes. Don retired and made Payson his home. He loved to hunt and fish, which he did from a very young age. He was also an amazing artist. He loved to paint and taught others as well. He was loved by everyone he met. He had a huge heart and would help anyone. Don married Carolyn Bishop How-ell in June 2014. They enjoyed traveling, spending time at Roosevelt Lake and spending time with family.

Don is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Carolyn Toot, as well as his first wife LaFerne Toot. Don is survived by his step children Gayle(Steve) Gouker, Harry(Melissa) Howell. Grandchildren: Rebekah McCoy, Allisabeth(Brian) Jackson, Zane(Jessica Vasilic) Gouker, Austin Howell, and Cutter(Briley) Gouker. Great Grandchildren: Hadley McCoy, Mallie Gouker, Mareli Jackson, Remmie Jackson and Maverik Gouker.

Nephew: Dick(Doralee) Connolly, Nieces: Donna Bishop Toot & Marilyn Hulbert, in addition to many great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 10:00am, at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85024
