Gene Koeneman, 102 years young, went peacefully home to be with his Lord on December 14, 2018. He was born in Chicago, Ill. to William and Martha Koeneman. He met Alice Schwager and married her during WWII in 1943. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor as a flight engineer on a PBY air-plane. They had 3 children – William, Marion and Eugene.
After the war, Gene worked in the telephone industry in the crossbar division, first in Illinois and then in Arizona. He was very active in his church and was a founding member of Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church here in Payson. He loved to gar-den, travel, take cruises and he loved pumpkin pie and coffee. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and repaired talking books for the visually impaired.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his son, Bill and his son-in-law, Mike Cobo. He is survived by his daughter, Marion Cobo; his son, Gene (Sherri Beadles); and his grand-daughter, Kayle Cobo.
Gene was a godly man, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
Funeral service will be held on December 28, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, Payson. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Payson Christian Clinic, 701 S. Ponderosa St.
