Disagree with two letter writers
Two letters to the editor in last Friday’s Roundup got my attention.
The first tried to make the argument that Payson should remain a “pass through” town rather than a “destination” and that anyone suggesting otherwise is a “charlatan” trying to “sucker” the townspeople into some unreasonable proposal.
I think that people trying to improve the economic viability of our town by getting more people to stop and eat in our restaurants, stay in our hotels, and shop at our grocery stores do not fit that characterization.
I believe that efforts to try to attract a branch of a major university or an elite prep school to our community, to improve the rodeo grounds, or to make Main Street more of a destination are equally honorable in their intentions.
I suggest that we get over the name-calling and simply work together to help our community prosper. The second letter was even more off base ... trying to credit our current president with the success of the United States in addressing carbon emissions. The latter writer needs to get a clue on reality.
