Let’s do something positive

When I was young I never heard of COPD. I never saw people carrying portable oxygen wherever they went. I never heard of no burn days and no leaf blowing restrictions. I don’t remember people being told to stay indoors if they have respiratory problems. However, these issues are common today because of poor air quality. These problems affect people residing less than 100 miles to our south and some of us here in Payson.

What can be done? The answer is solar. With more than 330 days of sunshine a year, Arizona should mandate that all new construction have solar and all existing structures be retrofitted with solar. There are companies that offer free installation and free maintenance while saving you money on your electric costs, making solar possible for everyone.

The inverters on my solar system track the amount of greenhouse gases that it has saved from being dumped into our environment. The total is approaching 100,000 pounds. Greenhouse gases when expelled into the environment are held captive by the ozone layer. Global warming experts have indicated that these gases contribute to the global warming problem.

If my solar installation can save 100,000 pounds, think of the difference the total number of homes in Arizona can make. Whether you believe in global warming or not, this is an action we all can take to help clean up our air quality.

And, if the greenhouse gases do contribute to the global warming problem, then this would be a win/win for all. Let’s make a difference and then we can all enjoy a breath of fresh air.
