Time to face reality
I have owned a house in Payson since 1975 and spend about three to four months a year there.
Obviously, I have seen a lot happen in Payson over the years. One certainty I can count on is that our town will be approached by one grifter or another who will approach the town leaders to convince them of the great “deal” or “program” available if they will just buy into it.
In many cases I am sure they have thought we were just “country bumpkins” willing to buy into these fantastic opportunities (which we did sometimes). How many of you old-timers remember the “pro golf club” with a “pro player” that was to be in Payson? How about the big country western venue planned at the end of Granite Dells Road? In more recent times the town leaders actually wasted thousands of dollars on these last two “pie-in-the-sky” schemes — the university fiasco and the ice rink/school remodeling of Rumsey Park.
I think it is time to get a “grip on reality” and understand that Payson has been, and probably will always be not a destination, but a “pass through” town with all that implies. It is time to stop being “suckered in” by these charlatans and plan for the future based on what is true and not what some people “want to be true.”
