This year we presented three outstanding Memorial Day tributes in our high-country region. Each were unique unto themselves and were befitting the occasion. There were photos taken and I am confident that our citizens who were unable to attend the events will share by the newspaper coverage, for that we sincerely thank you.
On behalf of the Payson Patriotic Events Committee and the Town of Payson I wish to highlight what our high-country region accomplished to honor our veterans on Memorial Day 2019. Three tributes were presented, two on Sunday 26 May and one on Monday 27 May. All were in keeping with tradition and honored all our veterans past, present and future. These events do not happen by accident. They are the result of the collective effort of many dedicated and talented citizens. The Payson Patriotic Events Committee would like to thank the following: The folks at our Pioneer Cemetery who tend to the cemetery and place the flags on the gravesites at appropriate times; Messinger Payson Funeral Home for sponsoring and supporting the tribute at Mountain Meadows Cemetery; the Rim Country Detachment of the Marine Corps League; the Civil Air Patrol Cadets and the Payson Military Honor Guard; the media who supported us and all who shared their thoughts with those present at the Veterans Memorial in Green Valley Park. A special thanks to Mr. Randy Roberson who fulfilled the role of master of ceremonies and Fred Carpenter who provided the excellent sound/music system. And most of all, a very special thank you to all who participated by attending. This year the weather was not the best however, we presented our program tribute to a packed house ... mute testimony to what our community is all about and reflective of what needs to be done to make that “difference that counts” at the grass roots level here at home.
Our community is fortunate to have such caring and sharing friends, neighbors and American patriots who are willing to step forward and contribute their time and efforts to helping “make a difference.”
