Let’s Talk Fishin’ held a two-day fishing tournament at Roosevelt Lake on May 18-19.

Seventeen of the 81 teams made the cut to qualify for the second day.

Don Robinson of Phoenix and Alf Penland of Tucson won with a weight of 23.48 pounds. They finished second in the big fish contest with one weighing 5.94 pounds.

Rim Country was well represented in the tournament. Tom Karavites of Payson and Kirk Russell of Star Valley finished third with 17.2 pounds of fish.

Chuck Thompson of Pine and Travis Foster of Payson finished 14th with a weight of 10.95, with a big fish of 2.11 pounds. They won Anglers of the Year in the ABA Region with a chance to win a new Ranger boat in the ABA Championship on Lake Havasu in November.

Tonto Basin’s Dick Ieppert and Buckeye’s Susan Shepherd finished first in the Crappie Division on May 18 with a two-fish weight of 3.45 pounds and a big fish of 2.0 pounds.

Payson’s Bill Poppent and Phoenix’s Larry Laren teamed up to finish second (2.86 pounds), with a big fish of 1.82 pounds.

Let’s Talk Fishin’ held the first of its five night tournaments at Roosevelt Lake on June 8. The next night tournament is June 22, followed by July 13, July 27 and Aug. 10.

The Dick Laporte Memorial Tournament is Saturday, June 15 at Roosevelt Lake.
