Playing songs from Mötley Crüe to the ethereal Mark Williams with some jazz thrown in, the bands from Rim Country Middle School and Payson High School joined forces in their final concert of the year.

Local photographer DJ Craig captured the intensity and joy the students showed as they played at the concert.

Director Kyle Headstream, in his final year of teaching at the district, put his heart and soul into preparing the students to play songs such as “Over the Rainbow” and “Lord of the Dance.”

It’s PHS tradition to have the seniors pick songs then direct fellow bandmates. It’s always a wonder to watch the seniors take the baton to lead their friends.

The middle school band played songs such as the theme from “Jurassic Park” and “Plaza de Toros” (Mark Williams) with inspiration.

Parents need not worry about the music program as the new band director has already been hired, said Headstream.

Future appearances by the RCMS and PHS bands:

• RCMS advanced band will play at the RCMS promotion May 23, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. in the PHS Auditorium.

• PHS band at graduation, May 24, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the PHS football field.
