Several Longhorns enjoyed big performances to lead Payson’s girls track and field team to a fifth place finish among 10 scoring teams in the Fr. Oliver Freshman-Sophomore Invitational and Varsity Open at Phoenix Brophy Sports Complex on Thursday, March 28-Friday, March 29.
Meredith Kiekintveld won the 300 open hurdles in 47.09 seconds. She teammed with Savanna White, Emmy White and Hannah Goldman to win the open 4x100 in 51.95. No other teams competed in that event.
Kiekintveld also finished third in the open 100 hurdles in 16.59.
Savanna White turned in several strong performances over the two days to finish second in the heptathlon with 2,838 points. Emmy White was third with a personal-record 2,375 points.
Savanna White won the open shot put with a throw of 10.31 meters to lead the Longhorns to a sweep of the top three places. Caitlin Harold finished second (6.55) and Emmy White third (PR 6.48).
Savanna White also finished second in the open 200 (29.62), 100 hurdles (PR 21.16), javelin (PR 26.61) and high jump (1.42 meters).
Emmy White finished third in the open 200 (29.77), 100 hurdles (PR 21.83), high jump (1.27m), open long jump (PR 4.28m), open 800 (PR 2:56.35) and tied for third in the freshman-sophomore triple jump (29-11 3/4).
Faith Haught won the freshman-sophomore discus (97 feet 9 inches) and finished second in the freshman-sophomore shot put (PR 29-3 1/2).
Payson scored 51 1/2 points. Desert Vista won with 204.
