Golf 2018 Cyle Moss

Cyle Moss, shown here last season at Chaparral Pines, has been a consistent contributor for the varsity team this season.

Rayce Mathews led Payson to a second-place finish in a five-team golf match in Fountain Hills with a 40 on Tuesday one day after firing a 1-under par 34 to earn medalist honors and lead the Longhorns to a runner-up showing in Holbrook.

At Desert Canyon Golf Course on Tuesday, Colton Justice followed with a 42, Cyle Moss shot 43 and Emme Sopeland carded 52 to give the Longhorns a team score of 177.

Fountain Hills won with 162. Phoenix Country Day (179) finished third, Rancho Solano (214) fourth and Gilbert Classical (232) fifth.

At Hidden Cove Golf Course a day earlier, Mathews’ 34 led the Longhorns to a season-low 168 in a four-team match.

The Longhorns finished second to Blue Ridge, which fired a 157. Holbrook (170) finished third and Williams (231) fourth.

Also for Payson, Colton Justice and Cyle Moss both carded 44s, while Emme Sopeland shot 46. Tanner Mansoor’s 55 was not used.
