Baseball Fist Bump 2019

Brian Young fist-bumps Jesse Conway as RJ Butler looks on in a game against San Tan Foothills this season. Young was voted 3A East Coach of the Year and Conway and Butler joined River Phillips in making the all-region first team.

A lot went right this spring as Payson’s baseball team won another 3A East Region championship.

And voting for the all-region team reflected the dominance that propelled the Longhorns to a 9-1 record in the 3A East and the No. 3 ranking in the state.

A trio of Longhorns made the All-3A East First Team in voting by coaches and Brian Young was voted region Coach of the Year for the second time in three years.

Senior catcher RJ Butler, junior outfielder/pitcher Jesse Conway and junior pitcher/third baseman River Phillips all made the 13-member first team. Conway was selected as an outfielder and Phillips as a pitcher.

Senior pitcher Kevin Cerna and junior first baseman Hunter Harold (1B) made the second team.

Senior outfielder/infielder/pitcher Alan Cerna and senior outfielder/pitcher Makoa Rich were honorable mention.

Butler also earned Second-Team 3A All-State honors, while Conway was honorable mention.
