Golf Rayce Mathews Sand Trap Low Rez

Rayce Mathews shoots from the sand trap on the third hole at Chaparral Pines on Wednesday. The Payson senior sank a 22-foot putt to save par on the hole.

Rayce Mathews played his final high school home golf match on Wednesday.

And the senior went out in style shooting 2-over par 37 on the front nine at Chaparral Pines Golf and Country Club to finish first in a four-team match.

Colton Justice carded 46, Katie Sexton shot her best round on the course with a 47 and Emme Sopeland rounded out the team scoring with a 54. Cyle Moss’ 58 was not counted.

Snowflake shot 30-over par to win. Blue Ridge (plus 41) was second, edging the Longhorns (plus 44) by three strokes. Arizona Lutheran finished fourth at 61 over par.

The Horns continue their push to qualify for the Division 3 state tournament at Omni Tucson National on May 7-8 with a two-day tournament at Antelope Hills in Prescott on Friday and Saturday.
